Re>Formations
Photography has always been an important tool for me to reveal things commonly overlooked. These photographs explore my interest in the relationships among shape, light and color and speak to the fragility of nature.
The images are created by using common objects such as botanical materials found on walks or shards of glass from broken bottles that are layered with inks and dyes to create frozen temporary sculptures. Chemicals are added to the water for viscosity to form the layers that once frozen are melted to create imperfect shapes and ranges of color. As the sculpture thins and melts it metamorphoses like a butterfly but with each passing second it is at risk of ruin.
The original materials collected are discarded, but the sculpted specimens exist as photographs and are preserved permanently for display.
